Tonight, I was wanting to share my thoughts on some books that I’ve been reading and what they’ve meant to me, but I’m just too tired.  I’ve spent the last two days deep cleaning, organizing, and packing some things we’ll need for our trip to Ann Arbor.  Sarah and I have said many times that the past few months have felt like a dream because Bowen isn’t here yet, but in the next few days it will all become reality.  If I’m honest, it’s been fairly easy up to this point to feel and to speak about things like hope and trust, but how easy will it be if we come face to face with our greatest fears over the next several days?  As my mind is already tired from days of preparation, this is my prayer for the days to come; that even in the darkness, even in the questions, even in the times that we’re not meant to understand…that we will trust.

I wrote a song with my friend Jason Ingram about what it means to trust during times like these. I’m not the type  to post worktapes (demos) for others to hear before a song is recorded for an album, but I thought this was an appropriate time and place despite it’s imperfections. This is one of eight songs I have recorded to play for Bowen and Sarah while we’re in the hospital. The working title is Trust. You can play it through the following player.

Lest I’m tempted to forget
I’ll tie Your love around my neck
I’ll write Your words upon my heart
Lord, I won’t forget how good You are

I’ll dwell upon Your faithfulness
I’ll rest within Your promises
And when I’m walking through the dark
Lord, I won’t forget how good You are

I will trust, I will trust You
I will trust You Lord with all my heart
And I won’t forget how good You are
No, I won’t forget how good You are

You gave me everything I have
My whole life is in Your hands
When what I fear is closing in
Lord, Your faithfulness will never end

I will trust, I will trust You
I will trust You Lord with all my heart
And I won’t forget how good You are
No, I won’t forget how good You are

Even in the darkness, even in the questions
Even when the hardest times of life are at hand
Even in darkness, even in questions
Even in the times that I’m not meant to understand

I will trust.
