O YES!!!! It’s been so humbling following your gorgeous family thru this terrible time. Up and downs , elation and sadness , hope and helplessness….but NEVER HOPElessness. Thank you for your open hearts , for the way you are still showing the world around you that YOUR God is the SOLID ROCK to build on. I pray that as you go home you’ll continue being assured of the Lord’s leading in the months (and years) to come. I pray for a smooth settling in for both of you. For confidence as you tend to his needs , medication etc. For strength when You have to be away Matt. For wisdom when the girls get over-excited , wanting more attention than you can give at a given moment as you tend to Bowen’s care and you need to know when to be patient and when to discipline
I pray for peace at night, knowing the Lord is at Bowen’s bed-side as you sleep . And for a time of deep satisfaction as you get to be a ‘normal’ (who is normal) family again. Home for Thanksgiving and Christmas……..Wow.
in a local nursing home and they have all been praying for Bowen for a while. So this will be great news for them.

Bruce and I are so happy that you can take Bowen home today. God bless you and your family and just surround them with your love a peace. Be with them when times may get a little scary doing the care by themselves. God you are just so wonderful and have brought this family through “the ups and downs” of life. Continue to give them strength and hope.
Matt, Bruce and I met you Sat. night at The Underground in Cincinnati. We love your song “Lead Me”. Through our 39 years of marriage, we have been through quite a few trials, but feel that we are stronger for it and through the counseling we have had. We can see the strength and maturity that God has given you and Sarah through what you have been through.
One of my favorite readings: Romans 5:1-5 “Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance, perseverance produces character, and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.” God bless you all!

I know that sometimes his answer to our prayers is no, not this time, or no not yet, but I also know that his answer is sometimes YES, and for that Thank you Jesus. Praise God! Rejoicing with you on this wondrous day. Bowen will continue to be in my prayers. Have a wonderful wonderful upcoming holiday season.
May I just say how blessed I feel to be able to follow your story, and to see your legacy of faith being lived out in this illness with Bowen. What a testimony! As someone who struggles sometimes with wanting to ask God the why questions, it is so uplifting and encouraging to follow your story, and be encouraged by your faith. It is hard to be in the hospital, hard to have so many unanswered medical questions, but you remind us that God does know, and to praise Him regardless. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!
And thanks for sharing that beautiful video of Bowen:-)

Wow! Matt and Sarah yawl have come a very long way with wanting to take Bowen home. Now today can yawl two believe it or what? Your taking your son home to be with yawl forever and ever and including the holidays that he will look forward being apart of with yawl his parents and Emmy and Claire his sisters and the rest of yawls families and friends. My parents went through the same thing yawl are and went through with Bowen up in Mott and it was hard they stayed in the hospital for 93 days straight with my (HLHS) surgeries and fontan and god bladder and etc, so they know what all yawl are going thrlugh and have gone through because they both went through it too with me. The video is nice I hope I get to watch it and yawl please reply to this message and keep Bowen updated and always take Bowen back to Mott to visit the hospital my parents did that with me and it really did help. Also I was a “MAE A WISH” child so yawl might want to look into that if yawl have never heard of that. Bowen is everything to the family and friends yawl know or got to know throughout yawls stay in Mott, and people who have posted helping yawls lives better and heart kids who want to meet the whole family (LIKE ME!!!!!!!) I know God did make miracle on Bowen through Good and Bad times in Mott. Remember to go back and years later down the road when Bowen is older and the girls too show them all the comments people posted about him. I hope we stay in touch and I want yawl to come as a family to Memphis, TN. again so that Bowen can meet me. Cause all I want is to meet you all someday and Im hoping that, that someday will come soon to me! Much love, Mallory:)

Prasie God that you guys get to go home today. My daughter, Elyana who is 14months today, was born at MOTTS in MI. She was in the NICU for four months. She has gone back many times since her discharge. It’s a great hospital and I praise God for all the ways he works. I will be praying for you and your family and also for the upcoming surgery in Feb.

Matt and Sarah – I have been praying for you all daily and am overjoyed that this day has finally come for you! I first heard it on KLove this morning before I got to work and had to pull over because I couldn’t see through the tears of joy! You two have challenged me and blessed me and I only hope I can present such a powerful witness when I am called to go through my own struggles. Thank you for your willingness to lay it all out there. I’m going to keep praying because I know you still have a long, treacherous road ahead of you, but for today, I’m praising God for answered prayers! Welcome Home Little Bowen!

What a blessing Sarah & Matt!!! God is SO good!!
We have a little one in our christian family that was born at 28 weeks…little Colton had a hole in his heart, and bleeding on the brain to stage 4…God has blessed this family greatly in healing the hole in his heart and has stopped the bleeding in his little head. Please pray for his continued healing and that the cysts that have grown in his brain will not do any damage.
May God’s plan move forward…whatever that may be!! His love endures FOREVER!!

Thank you Lord! I am so happy to hear that Bowen is going home! You both are truly an inspiration and blessing to me. Isaiah 41:10 is one of my favorite verses in the Bible and I know that God used that blog that day to lift me up when I was having a hard day. So, thank you for all of the blogs- I love them!

Matt, Sarah and Bowen:
Praise our most mighty God! What a wonderful blessing to receive for Thanksgiving. I am so excited for your family to finally become one complete unit – you have been down a long and winding road together. God is so awesome and powerful and through your wonderful gift of Bowen – have reached out to many of us to share your ups and downs, your happy times and disappointments, your wonderful messages from God and your times of distress when you felt like God was at a distance. I want you to know that everything you felt, we felt, I FELT! Thank you for sharing – I personally have grown through your experience – God has used you when you least expected it. I look forward to your continued postings and learning how Bowen and your wonderful family is adjusting and thriving. May God continue to bless you and your family (and “our” – you know he is so precious and special to us also – little Bowen). I will continue to lift you up in prayer – and rest in the knowledge that God is good. He never leaves us or forsakes us. He is there in our greatest of times and our leastest of times. Wishing you and your entire family a most wonderful, bountiful and joyous Thanksgiving. In Christ, Karen

Hi Bowen!! My name is Will and I am going to be four in December. I also have a sick heart, they say I have HLHS whatever that is. I have had four heart surgeries and am doing GREAT! Ever since my daddy heard about your story he has let me pray for you every night. I always pray for “Bowen” and all the other sick children that need my prayers. I have a web site also that your mommy and daddy might enjoy. My daddy and mommy started it over three years ago and they have kept it updated until recently . My daddy put the address in above if your mommy and daddy want to look at it for strength and encouragement.
When my daddy told me you were going home today I got SOOOO excited. I jumped up and down and made my daddy play the video about three times. I am so happy you are going home. I will keep praying for you and your family.
God Bless you guys,
Will

It’s amazing how attached we can be to people we haven’t met, but I suppose that is what was intended in being brothers and sisters in Christ. Thank you so much for sharing your life with us and for sharing the video today. Watching Bowen in video just brought tears to my eyes, and I praise God for each and every day. I am thrilled for your family, and I will continue to pray for his healing and for the Lord’s protective hand over Bowen. I can’t imagine that the road will be easy, but both of you are incredibly strong parents in the Lord, and He will make the way for you. Enjoy your precious little guy. He sure has made my day with his beautiful smile. I’m sure his precious sisters are bouncing with joy! Love in Christ, Caroline

Lisa,
Happy Thanksgiving to you, too. You are right … when one has been through hard trials, it tends to soften our hearts and make us more appreciative of what we have. I believe it is one reason God allows the tough times … to change our perspective to His perspective. May God bless.

At 4 weeks old our son, Kaeden, stopped breathing during a feeding and after reviving him through CPR and rushed to the ER, he was diagnosed with TAPVR. Another congenital heart condition. After open heart surgery and spending a short 11 days in the NICU, we were able to take him home!
For us it was hard to not have the wonderful nurses at our side with answers to our questions or machines warning us something may not be right. I took a lot of faith to trust that no matter what, God had Kaeden in His hands when we could finally sleep. I pray for the same for you. Also, he is now 4 months old and I personally regret not just basking in what a blessing my son is instead of worrying if his heart was beating or if he was breathing. God has brought me to that stage now and I am truly not afraid no matter how often we have to go back to the hospital. Thank you God! You all will continue to be in my prayers. Enjoy that wonderful, strong little boy

Happiness! I remember walking through through our front door with our daughter for the first time. When you get home and settled there is often this “what now” feeling… in that feeling rejoice!!! celebrate! go barefoot, and dance!!! all those things that make you glad to be home! Do them, while looking at Bowen in his own home!! Praise God!

I have heard Bowen’s story on K-LOVE, but never looked at your blog. I’m not sure why I remembered this morning maybe it was God. I wanted to take a minute to thank you and Sara for sharing your story. My husband and I have 3 boys. 1 is a set of twins. They are all healthy, praise God, but I sometimes allow myself to get into a state of “Why do I have twins!”. It has been very challenging taking care of 2 at once, but as I was reading your struggles I have been reminded that our struggles could have been so much more difficult. We are not promised an easy journey as a Christian, but one filled with joy, hope and HIM! Our Pastor is doing a series on Behaving in the Wilderness and I was encouraged by a statement he shared…”the wilderness experience is not a permanent residence, but a passing journey.” It reminded me that no matter what we are going through it is not permanent and there will be an end! Now there is a promise we can all look forward to! We will be praying for you and your family!!

Matt & Sarah,
I am so excited that you get to take Bowen home with you. I know how exciting that is. I was a nervous wreck the day they told us that we could take Tanner home. I wasn’t 100% sure till we got him tucked away in our car and were exiting the parking garage on our way home. Enjoy your time with your whole family especially here at Thanksgiving! What a wonderful gift. May God continue to bless each of you, your girls and Bowen!!

I have kept up with Bowen’s story through KLove for sometime now. Praising the Lord with you for all the wonderful work He has done with your family! So glad Baby Bowen is going home!
I personally can relate to your story…I have a little girl, Nevaeh Faith who has lived in the hospital on and off for the past two years. Doctors still have no idea what is wrong with Nevaeh. I just wanted you to know that your song (Something Heavenly) has been “our song” through this journey of the unknown. It helped me soooo much! I always wanted to tell you how much that song meant to our family since we first heard it back in 2008. We are currently back in the hospital fighting an infection…your story and music is such an inspiration….Thank you!
Lord thank you for this amazing family and for the healing Bowen is receiving from you! Thank you for reminding me I am not alone and that there are people out there that do go through similar things as we do. Thank you for your grace and mercy pulling me through.

Oh, I am soooo happy that you two get to take Bowen home and you can all be together as a family!! So cool!! I will continue praying for Bowen as I have been and for his upcoming 2nd surgery in Feb 2011. God is so good all the time through all of the hard times and good times isn’t He? He sees the BIG picture and though we don’t understand completely why this is happening to Bowen we KNOW that God is in control. One thing good that I can see has come out of this long time in the hospital is that you two, Sarah and Matt, have been able to minister and connect with others who are hurting and I am sure that was a blessing to them. My heart goes out to all of your family even though I don’t know you but I feel that all children of God are family. Take care. Love you all.
In His Precious name,

This is one of the best posts since your boy Bowen was born. I’m more than just excited when reading this wonderful news, I’m sooooo happy for you. Welcome home Bowen darling! I’ve been following your story since Bowen’s birth and what a journey you have been through. We pray for Bowen, you and Sarah, and your girls to have the strength to endure what God has in his plan for your family. Although Bowen is only a couple months young, God has used him to touch so many people already. He is such a blessing and such a beautiful baby boy. I pray that in spite of Bowen’s weaknesses, he would be strong physically and spiritually. That he can live a healthy life and be able to do all the activities that other boys love to do; running, playing around, etc. May God give you and Sarah strength to care for him at home and tend to his needs (medications and stuff). May your girls now learn to share your attention with their baby brother. I am amazed at how strong your faith is in spite of everything you’ve been through. Be strong in our great Lord.

Rejoicing with you over Bowen’s homecoming!!! Praise God from whom all blessings flow!!
Matt your digging deeper sections are powerful, convicting and encouraging. I want to express my gratitude for being willing to openly and honestly share insights, struggles, challeges and victories that you have gone through these past months. You have challenged my own faith and to “dig deeper” in my own walk. Thank you!!

YEEEEHAW!!! So excited for you all! I can’t imagine what it must be like to be going home today, starting that process of getting used to the “new normal.” It’s strange enough bringing home a new baby after a couple of days in the hospital, so it must be almost surreal to make THIS transition. Prayers for a purely joyful homecoming and a quiet and peaceful rest with family between now and Bowen’s next procedure. Continuing to hold your little boy and your whole family close to my heart and up to God. Much love to all of you.

Thank you Jesus for there is None like You. When you get a chance I think you might appreciate this site http://www.awmi.net/home —go into where its says ministry news, there is so many healing testamonies and oneof a baby girl born with part of her heart missing and that there were no major arteries flowing from the heart to the lungs. please I know i am persistant on this but it s God’s will for all to be healed.
I am so excited he is home where he belongs. May God’s peace be upon you and our family. The particular healing testamonie is called ”The Lord Looks at the Heart”

Praise God! I was so happy this morning when I watched this video that K-LOVE had posted on Facebook! I have been following your story and praying for your family a lot. Bowen is such an inspiration to so many. This trial that your family has been through is touched by God in so many ways. Through this, you are encouraging and helping so many people. I thank God for your family. I am so thankful that you have taken the time to share your story with the world. Instead of dwelling on your sadness, you give the rest of us hope. I am continuing to pray for Bowen and the rest of you. May God shower you all with blessings. Thank you.

I just wanted to say what a blessing, it is to bring a child home from the NICU. We had a 15.5 oz. baby in January 09. She is a beautify little girl and very healthy. She was truly God’s miracle. We owed all our thanks to God, Geisinger Hospital NICU, and our faithful support group that ended up being from all over the world and we didn’t even know it till we came home.
You are truly blessed and your baby has a reason to be here, may it follow through with God’s plans. God Bless and enjoy each and everyday. That’s What Faith Can Do!
God Bless!

God Bless you all. I am 16 and was attending the Awakening Fest in Leesburg, VA and found out Santus Real would not be playing due to a family emergency, I went home that night and found out about Bowen. Ever since I read what was going on I signed up for the blog/newsletter to be emailed to me. Every morning I work up praying that when I went to check my email Bowen was going home. Some days were encouraging other days made me prayer harder for Bowen and his family. Congratulations and hope you all have a wonderful break from the hospital. I will continue to pray for you all and Bowen.

I just had to let you know that I am so happy to hear the wonderful news about Bowen getting to go home with you and Sarah. I know that this has been a trying time for you and your family, but please know that God has used your trial, along with yours and Sarah’s faith, to be an inspiration for those of us that are going through similiar trials. My husband, of twenty two years, just recently left me about six months ago. My world has crumbled around me. My son and daughter both left home, about a month after my husband left, so I find myself at home alone with my two dogs. However, God has shown me that He is with me through the love that my dogs show me everyday. I have learned to look for God through the “little” things that life shows me everyday. I hear Him within the birds’ songs every morning. I feel Him in the wind that blows my hair each day when I step outside. Your words of encouragement every day have helped to remind me that with God’s help and love, there isn’t anything we can’t get through. With God all things are possible. I will continue to keep you and your family in my prayers. Please continue to keep us updated on Bowen’s improvements. Bless you and your family! Thank you for allowing us to become a part of your “extended” Christian family.

Matt and Sarah,
It was great to get to meet you and to see the joy in your face Sarah as you talked about going home. I am super happy that many people are not only sharing in your journey now, but will get to know you through other means in the future. God’s story shared through your life to others. It is an amazing honor to shine so bright the love of our Father. May you have peace tonight as you sleep at home, altogether under one roof. But know that you are all being held in One Almighty Hand.
God is so good!
Kasi had to show me her verse for today’s devotion and I just thought I would share it with you. It is so fitting.
Isaiah 25:1
1 O Lord, I will honor and praise your name,
for you are my God.
You do such wonderful things!
You planned them long ago,
and now you have accomplished them.
God will do this, He is the great I AM who never changes. Praise be to Him today!
Blessings,

Matt and Sarah, Your son is a blessing to all of us. I have checked Prince Bowen’s blog on at least a weekly basis if not a daily basis. I am a single mom and have two beautiful children, I was first introduced to your family when I found the video of the story behind the song Lead Me on You tube. That song has become my life song, I am not married but I sure have two babies that are looking at me and needing to be Led to Christ and through this life. Thank you for your song… continue to praise the lord everyday for that beautiful baby boy. You are all in my prayers.

So thankful you guys are going home…I wondered when Sarah mentioned the discharge echo…they don’t do those too close to leaving time!! Such joy…Also, I was not sure how long Bowen has had his tube in (not sure if it is NG or TPT), but I was just going to mention if you had trouble getting the tape to stay and to keep the tube in place, we sometimes used the “dots” they use to keep the oxygen tubing on their face. We actually had tape all over Brooklyn’s nose…there was nothing better than seeing her whole face after 5 months of tape and tube! I said I would like to invent pink and blue tubes, instead of yellow, and flesh-colored tape, instead of white! But, it got the job done, and I would do it all over again, because she grew so well and thrived. Again, glad you all are home as a complete family…best feeling in the world!! Thanks for the video.

PRAISE GOD!! YES He’s home! This wonderful news made my day! Thanks for the video, Bowen has gotten so big! He’s super cute…wait until his big sisters get a hold of him!
Not sure if he went home with the NGtube or if he has meds to take, but I have lots of tips on giving an infant meds. I’m a heart mom and my daughter came home on 4 meds. It was difficult to give them to her & for her to keep them down. The other big thing for us was her risk for RSV when we got home. Again, not sure if Bowen has to get the monthly RSV vaccine, but I have lots of advice on that issue too.
So happy for all of you. May God continue to bless your family. Bowen will remain on our family’s “heart friends” prayer list.
There’s no place like HOME!

Matt and Sarah, there has not been a day that has gone by since I’ve heard about little Bowen that I haven’t thought about him or prayed for him. With my busy schedule, I have not been able to check up on the site daily, like I did in the beginning. I checked today, because I was hoping for some good news about him, and this was amazing news. Bowen is and always will be my hero. I will continue to keep him and your family in my prayers, especially during this upcoming holiday season. Much love to you all. <3

God is GREAT !!!!! Thank you Father God for taking such good care of this little man, Bowen and his family. Thank goodness they are able to go home with the girls and be a complete family. Praise your holy name.
Matt and Sarah, I was beyond thrilled this morning when I popped on line to check the status of your little guy. I am so happy you get to go home and be a family, all together. I will continue to pray for you all.
May God bless you all the days of your lives! WELCOME HOME BOWEN!

Matt and Sarah,
SO glad you all are able to be home and get to finally really rejoice in Bowen’s arrival! I know the girls must be thrilled to have you all home. Having a child with a health issue (ours is Type I diabetes) is tough, because you always worry about how the illness affects the OTHER children in the family. It truly becomes a ‘family issue’, not just a health issue for that particular child. Our prayers are certainly with you every day as you settle in to your ‘new life’! We will pray for good health and strength and pray even harder once February rolls around. Supporting and praying for you is a gift after all the blessings you all are to us (without even knowing it!)
Much love and prayer your way,
Shannon Annas
(and family, too!

Praise God! I’m so thankful to both of you for taking a lot of strangers on this powerful journey. I’ve been following your blog faithfully ever since I heard about it in September on a radio station. I’ve been praying for your family and for God to just richly bless you all. Bowen is a beautiful baby and the love and powerful faith you both share for him is a testimony in and of itself. May God pour out His blessings on you all. The girls must be so excited to have Bowen, mom and dad home finally. I know they are enjoying their brother. I’ll keep up with your blog and keep praying. All my love, Dianne

Hi, Matt, Sarah and Little Bowen. My stepson was born with hypoplasty left ventricle variant. He went through the same procedures Bowen went through. My prayers are with you and know that God is all capable. Despite the numerous surgeries and bad diagnosis of doctors, my stepson has played soccor most of his life and graduated high school this year and is now in college!! I hope this encourages you! I will keep the three of you in my prayers and enjoy little Bowen at home!! God Bless.

I was driving in the car yesterday and the song “Lead Me” came on the radio. Knowing what you all haved been going through sure gave me a different perspective on that song. I thought about how couragous you all have been and how God has lead you to open your hearts to all of us. Then the song ended and the dj said you guys were going home!!!! I had to stop the car because I started crying. They were, of course tears of joy!!! God bless you, Sarah, the girls and little Bowen!! May your home be filled with lots of love and laughter in the next few days as you settle in to a routine at home!!!!

Bowen,
I have no idea when your mom and dad will have time to read through all these posts… but when they do I want you to know that you are a special boy and that you are loved not only by God but by many people you’ve never met!!! I am praying for your family that God will give them strength and wisdom to take care of you. I saw the picture of all your medications. May God be with them as they love you and distrubute your medicine to you daily. I am sure it is the BEST feeling in the world to have you in their arms at home.
Prayfully,

SO grateful that you all have gone home with your sweetie baby boy! Praise God for His faithfulness each and everyday. I totally understand how it feels to have a child born with medical issues. Our second daughter was born with “very noticeable signs of brain damage” (according to the doctors’ MRI) due to my uterus rupturing during labor and lack of oxygen to her. BUT…GOD is our healer…2 days later her MRI’s showed no brain damage at ALL!! Even though she did spend some time in the NICU, she made a much faster than expected recovery.
You all are going to be so blessed as you get to tell Bowen about how he came into this world and the struggles that he had to deal with and that GOD brought him through! He is a living testimony
Even though it was scary and uncertain at times…what an awesome story to carry with him for the rest of his life!

I’m so touched by your story and god’s blessing on you and Bowen. I too had a little boy named John who was born with severe birth defects in 1985. He has since gone home with the Lord. I was just so grateful for our Lord in giving John to us. Even though we only had him a short while, he was such a gift and touched so many people. May the Lord continue to comfort and heal Bowen and to give you his peace. He truly is such an awsome Savior!!

I heard about your son Bowen on K-love one morning while taking my children to school. That night when my children and I said prayers my daughter says” Mommy don’t forget to pray for baby Bowen from the radio and pray God wraps his arms around his heart to fix it” She is only 6yrs old so I was very impressed! Many prayers and may God bless and heal Bowen!!!

God Bless you all !! God’s grace is so wonderful.
My husband and I know just recently the power of prayer. Our son (31 years old ), he just had a birthday near Thanksgiving, was diagnosed last Jan with Hodgekins Lymphoma and went through a long year of living with his father and I and getting chemo. He is now cancer free thanks to all the prayers sent up on his behalf and because the Lord granted him grace and love. Praise our Lord. Our son has a wonderful sister and brother who are thankful for his healing.
God is watching over your family. He is always with us. Praise His Holy Name. Have lots of fun loving your precious son. What wonderful gifts our children are to us.
Merry Christmas !
