Last Sunday, November 6th, was a special day for Sarah and I. We had the privilege of spending it with friends and family who came to celebrate that Bowen’s heart is still beating. We had friends visit from as far as Georgia and Wyoming who were gracious enough to spend their valuable time traveling to be at the party. We’re so grateful to everyone who came out to love on our little guy. For those of you who expressed desire to attend, but couldn’t make it, we know you were with us in spirit. Hopefully we’ll have an opportunity to meet you in the future and express our gratitude for your prayers and support face to face.
Sarah did an outstanding job of planning the party, which included work such as baking 500 cookies and hand crafting decorations with the girls. However, she was adamant that I give credit where it’s due. We really couldn’t have done any of it without our family and some of Sarah’s closest friends, who were up early and stayed up late making sure everything happened as planned. We are also grateful for our friend lovingly known as “Pastor Bill” who contributed to our celebration by dedicating Bowen to The Lord. We had already dedicated Bowen’s life, as well as our entire family, to God in our hearts and in prayer. However, it was important for us as parents to proclaim our faith in Christ before our friends and family, and commit to raising Bowen according to scriptural principals. We trust that God will continue to use our family and Bowen’s story to inspire and encourage others in their faith. That’s something worth celebrating.

Thanks for sharing the pictures of the party! It seems like it was a very blest time and I love you used it to dedicate Bowen to God before family and friends. It was wonderful to see all the other heart kids there along with Bowen. What was more thrilling was to see the different ages. God is so good!
Lord willing, I’d love for my Daniel (as well as the rest of my family) to meet Bowen one day (along with meeting the rest of you, too).
May God continue to bless you. We keep you all in our prayers constantly.

I heard Matt’s song “All of Me” on KLOVE last night and it made me wonder if you would post pictures from the party. I had heard from a party attendee that it was great. So glad it turned out so nice! The pictures are all very sweet. I was also thinking about how I miss the “going deeper” parts of the blog. Next time you take one of those deep dives, feel free to share.
Have a great week!

Wow!!! Seems like Bowen had a wonderful birthday party. Wish I could have been there to meet you all an to mainly meet Bowen even though he is so little it would have been amazing to meet a (HLHS) baby who manages taking care of their heart every single day of their life just like I do with my heart. Bowen is such a handsome baby he has grown up so much I can’t believe it. Im so glad as a family yall got to see Bowen express his joyfulness with friends and family and fans of him. My parents can also relate to when they first saw me happy at my first birthday seeing how excited I got and you would never think I had a heart problem an even four open heart surgeries.

Bowen,
Looks like you had an awesome party, with lots of people who love ya! I wish I could have been there but I’m always there in spirit. There hasn’t been a day that’s gone by since I first found you, that I havn’t prayed for you. I hope to one day meet you and your family, that’s on the top of my bucket list
I wanted to thank you Bowen. Without finding you, I don’t think I’d have had the courage to do what I do now. I’ve been sending cards and letters to kids who have cancer and other life threatening illnesses. There are about 20 that I follow on Facebook. I also write poetry for them, made a page called Poetry with a Purpose. You’ve been a great little inspiration and for that I’m thankful. Love you always!

Glad everyone had a great time! Well done Sarah and all the troops that answered the muster! The stand you’re taking and the dedication you’re displaying in building the family on God’s principles are a wonderful testimony and encouragement to so many of us. Celebrating Bowen’s heart’s still beating…. . Love that.
I have a little heart-mom (72) of my own . We admitted her to hospital today and she’ll be undergoing double, poss triple, bypass surgery tomorrow. The problems all came to light in the past 3 wks.
As with Graeme back in April , the Lord’s peace surrounds us like a comfort blanket. It was wonderful to
see how intensely Graeme hugged his Granny bye bye in hospital. Identification, sympathy, empathy! Something special between them , each knowing what the other was feeling.
As we committed her to the Lord’s care , the lady in the next bed was visibly touched and we prayed for her too.! We left mom ministering to her!! That’s my mom. We’ve had such laughs. On Thursday she had to see the anaesthesist and wasn’t sure what that would entail. I told her he probably wanted to check and see if her heart was strong enough to go thru surgery. Picture the scene….:D
Well , off to bed now! Midnight here in Belgium. Will keep ‘ y’all ‘ (sorry , I’m British but I couldn’t resist that:))posted.
Luv u all x

We had a great time. Thank you for including us in the celebration in really so many lives. I was extremely blessed to be a part of Bowen’s dedication, to finally get to hold him; even if for just a short time. Meeting all the family, friends, other fellow Bowensheart people and all the other heart children was also a celebration in itself. It was easy to see that a tremendous amount of hard work and planning was put into the celebration. Thank you, again, for allowing us to be a part. During all of the time since we first heard about Bowen, y’all have been such encouragement to us and I know many others. Everytime there has been an update, I think we all go back to the times we were in the same situation, reliving the past yet amazed with you guys and how you have dealt with it all, encouraging us when we should be encouraging you; being transparent and just a blessing to use all. We love you guys!

Matt and Sarah, We really enjoyed getting to meet and visit with you, your family, and friends. Thank you for all the effort you put into Bowen’s celebration. The food was very beautifully presented and tasty and the decorations were lovely. Bowen is such a sweet little fellow and I’m so thankful I got to hold him and talk to him. I thought it was really cute when he showed me his cheese and pacifier. Thank you so much for your kindness. It is a true blessing to be able to be a part of this heart family. I hope that more of the people here who haved dedicated their prayers, help and time to this blog will get an opportunity to meet you as well.

I think it is extremely kind of you all to open your family up and share your amazing story! Thank you for being so honest and transparent through your journey. I look forward to continue growing with you and through your testimony (and hopefully meeting you one day, too!).
Bowen, your broken heart has made mine whole!! Much love!

Bowen and your family are such an inspiration.

Thanks for the updates and pictures!
Always look forward to the next one!

Sorry we couldn’t be there. “Rock and Worship Roadshow” wouldn’t have been a success without merch volunteers.
But, you did get to meet my kids in Akron ‘cuz “We <3 Bowen with R Whole Hearts!"
Hoping your "Better than Pepsi" check does more good for the foundation than those Pepsis did for my bladder! LOL! (Unfortunately, that was probably still only a 1/3 of what I spent on Pepsi that month!)
Looks like you had a fabulous time! God bless Sarah for baking up 500 cookies! YIKES!!! We are so grateful that you chose to share your son and your story with us. Maybe we'll catch you on the next milestone.
Hmmm… I see you're doing Winter Jam in Cleveland 1/29. Maybe I'll twist arms to work your merch table.
Blessings to you and yours,

We really enjoyed the party and appreciated the invitation! I especially love the photo of our daughter Lauren with Bowen and the other heart children. We will treasure it always. We thought the photo booth was a wonderful idea, as well! The photo we took home is on our fridge, along with the photo of Bowen in his little tie. I look at it everyday. Sarah and your family and friends did a wonderful job with the food. My husband is still talking about the desserts and I even found one on the Internet so I could make it myself! Thanks again!

So glad that you had such a wonderful celebration with family, friends and Baby Bowen. He is getting to be such a little man.
Matt, we were at the concert at NKU in KY the night before your celebration, so glad that you got back home for it. You weren’t too far away at that point, but God bless you for singing for Him and keep spreading “The Good News” in concerts to some that may not come to hear it in church. God is certainly using you and your whole family in so many ways to show others what it is like to be faithful and to follow Him. God bless you all.
Blessings,
Judy

It looks like you had a beautiful party, and I think it’s just awesome you put an open invite out like you did! What an awesome opportunity it would have been to meet this inspiring little miracle called Bowen
I would have been overjoyed to make it if it hadn’t been a 5 1/2 hour drive and the fact that I myself am 36 weeks pregnant, haha.
So glad you had a wonderful party… and as always you’re in my thoughts and prayers! Thanks for sharing!

Thank you so much for sharing pictures of this celebration of life. Both of you are so thoughtful about sharing your hearts, the high and low times of life, and your family with us. I appreciate that you continue to keep us up to date about Bowen’s progress. Your sharing has been a source of encouragement for me to see how God is working through so many ways in your lives. May God continue to bless you, lead and guide you and your family in the ways He would have you go. Thank you for your faithfulness to God and for your ministry.

I just had the privilege to see you in concert on Friday, November 11, 2011 @ Idlewild Baptist Church in Florida. I was completely drawn to your story and had to come and see little Bowen for myself. I said a prayer for him because I know we both worship a God of miracles and little Bowen is definitely a miracle! We don’t know why these little angels are affected with life threatening disorders but we know that they are in the hands of God no matter if they are here on Earth of with Him in Heaven.
I will definitely keep your family and Bowen in my prayers as he continues to grow.
God Bless,

My nephew was born in July with the same condition as Bowen. For some reason no one detected it in an ultrasound so when he was born it was a complete shock to us all. It’s EXTREMELY hard to deal with especially for my sister and her Husband, but with Faith it makes it easier. He just had his second surgery and gets to come home on Weds!!! He has one more when he’s 3-4yrs old. I just want to thank you guys for your encouragement and for sharing your story, it helps to know we aren’t the only ones going through this battle!!!!
God Bless you all!!!!

I love reading your blog. Our daughter (20 weeks pregnant with her now) was diagnosed with HLHS 2 weeks ago. We passionately love Jesus Christ and believe that God chooses the parents of these special miracles. We don’t know why and certainly don’t feel strong enough but we believe that God will be glorified in this situation and has the greatest plan. For that we will be greatly and trustingly walk this road with him.

hello, my name is Fharyn. I am a respiratory therapy student at sinclair community college. October 24th, 2011 a beautiful baby named Bennett Justice was born with hypoplastic right heart syndrome. Bennett only lived for 14 days on this earth and touched so many lives, including mine. There is a blog that Bennett’s dad wrote to educate everyone about HRHS and give updates about Bennett. I first heard the song, “All of me” on the radio the day after Bennett’s passing. I had to pull the car over because I couldn’t stop the tears from flowing. Every night I pray for little Bennett and his parents, Tabitha and Geoff. Please pray for them during this difficult time. I am so happy to hear that Bowen is doing well. Your story inspires me just like Bennett’s. God Bless bennettjustice.tumblr.com

LOVE seeing pictures of your beautiful boy and family. God is good. I remember when your first announcement and request for prayers were made, how sad it made my heart. I have two healthy grownup girls and could only imagine your pain. You have been an exceptional witness to the greatness of God and even though I am sure you have had plenty of times that your soul cried out in pain and frustration, your posts (and those of your wife) have been a beautiful thing to read. I continue to pray that Bowen be blessed with healing that only God can provide, and that you all will have a wonderful, blessed Christmas with your family!

Ever since we heard about Bowen on KLOVE radio and how you were awaiting Bowen’s birth with complete trust in the Lord, we have been praying for Bowen and you and your family. We also pray for a couple of other kids whom the doctors said that they didn’t have a chance with their medical problems but we serve a awesome God and we thank Him for allowing us to pray for HIS continued healing on Bowen and CJ and Callie and all the other children whom the doctors had no hope…but our hope is in the Lord and we know that God is keeping HIS healing touch on Bowen. Bowen is such a beautiful child and we are blessed to follow up on him. May the Lord bless and keep you. May His face shine upon you and be gracious, may His face turn toward you and give you peace. Thank You God!
